problem with superscripts and subscripts
Author: Benny Ehrenberg    Posted: Mon, 11 Sep 2006 19:26:31 -0400

I have a problem with RefMan ver. 9.5. Whenever I superscript or
subscript a single character in the title or abstract fields, all
following characters appear the same, although they are not marked as
superscripted or subscripted. Therefore they cannot be changed back to
normal appearance.
I am using Windows XP.
Has anyone experienced the same problem?

Subscripts
>From the RM helpdesk I received this answer to your problem some time
ago. And it is the same problem to continue in some of the RM versions.
If the typography does not return to normal again after using the
subscript key when editing a reference in RefMan, then a file called
Riched32.dll is missing. The file is placed in:
C:\Windows\System\Riched32.dll and is part of the Office pack. The file
can also be placed together with RefMan in: C:\Programmer\Reference
manager 11\.

Perhaps Geoff will help you, see below. I have tried it and it works. Ask him.

Dear Benny,

I use RM9.5 with XP french flavor and have the same problem.
I cut/copy the text into Word with "Special paste"/paste without formatting and copy back to RM.
I lose all formatting though

This is an old problem that finally got fixed with V11. If you are not
going to upgrade, you'll need to find an old version of the DLL named
riched32.dll. This is a Microsoft DLL for text editing (specifically in
RichText format). It should already be in your Windows System file, but
you need to find the right old version and put it in the Refman program
directory (do NOT overwrite the one in Windows System). If you put this
into your RefMan program directory and then rstart RefMan the problem
will be fixed. However, the references that are messed up will not
revert wthout replacement or specific editing.

I do not remember the version number of the old file, but have kept a
copy
-- contact me directly if you can't find it on line and I'll email it to
you.

Yes, I experienced the same problem in V10. Don't have a solution for
it other than not to use the subscripting.

"Overall, Reference Manager is an excellent citation manager. It is simple enough to be used out of the box and not too intimidating for a new user. Equally, though, it contains enough powerful features and customisation to satisfy advanced users."
Information World Review
