output styles

I'm creating a new output style - and I'm stuck with the following problem:
When I cite two articles by the same author published in the same year I
want to be able to tell them apart by adding a letter to the year in both
the bibliography and in the text: Fulford (1990a) and Fulford (1990b) -
How do I do that?

Dear Marianne, I recently had the same problem but solved
it. Where you enter publication year, on the same line you
will see 'other'. Next to it put (a) or (b).
Hope it works - I use RefMan 9.5

Output styles and in text citations
Author: Sally Wortley    Posted: 18/09/2001 09:14:22 GDT
Dear everyone,

Having a bit of a problem with in text citations after generating a
bibliography in Word 2000 (Windows 95).
We have just upgraded to Ref Manger 9 and in using RM in our report, went to
generate a bibliography using Harvard os.

However I discovered that the first citation would format as Adams et al
2000 (for example) in the text, but any subsequent citation would list all
the authors eg Adams, Weir, Barr, Stacey and Joyce 2000.

I found where the dialogue box was in RM that listed this - however have
been denied access to change the output style so subsequent authors are also
formatted as Adams et al 2000.

Does anyone know how to fix this...I must admit I am a little frustrated as
I needed to get this report out today and have not have time to find who has
the manual.

any input would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

First of all, do you have 9.5 or 9.0? If you have 9.0, upgrade to 9.5
immediately. It's free.

Second, do you have a network version? If so, you have to be the only
one on the system (Read/Write EXCLUSIVE access) to edit things. You have
to go through the File/Open process to get the dialogue box that allows
you to specify EXCLUSIVE access.

This help any?

I'm sorry I'm on the other side of the world--I fear I'm too late to be
of any use!

Product Reviews

"Overall, Reference Manager is an excellent citation manager. It is simple enough to be used out of the box and not too intimidating for a new user. Equally, though, it contains enough powerful features and customisation to satisfy advanced users."
Information World Review

"It's highly recommended for anyone needing a powerful reference tool."
