Dear all,
I have a problem,
I have reference file that I can't open it as there is this error message:
"unable to find the specified database. The specified database either does not exist or one or more database files is missing" . It has always worked and from one day to the other this happened. Do you have any advise on how to recuperate it?

Close the database. Open the database, and choose in "Access rights"
"Read-write exclusive" instead of the default "Read-write share" and you are ready to go. This will stay so only during one session and RefMan will return to the default upon exiting and re-entering (applies to version 11).

Hi Matthew.
Could it be that you are using a second screen? The popup browser only works on the primary screen.

I've been using RM 9.5 for a few years, and my database has
~1,000
references. I recently installed RM on my new machine.
Previously,
when I inserted a new reference, as I started to type in the
author's> name(s) or keywords, I was given auto-input options of
authors and
keywords already in my database. It's not working for me now.
How
can re-engage the auto-fill for Authors and Keywords?
Thanks,
Matthew Langholtz

Are you sure you have both Refman files (rmd and rmx) and that they have exactly the same name. I saw this happen when someone accidently moved one of the files.

Marisa,
In the directory / folder where your database is located check whether you have two files or one file with the name of your database. You should have both .rmd and .rmx files. If not rebuild the database.

To rebuild a database, find the database.rmd file (where "database" is
the
name of your database). Don't open it--just know where it is.
Open Reference Manager, close all open databases, and go to
Tools/Rebuild
Database.
Depending on the size of your database, it may take a while. Not an
unreasonable thing to do as you head off to lunch.

Dear Marisa,
A RefMan database (what you see within RefMan) comprises two files
(which you can locate using Windows Explorer). The two files are named
identically except for the last letter of the extension: one will be
database.rmd, which is the data, and the other will be database.rmx,
which is the indexing (where "database" is whatever you have named your
database).
If you only have one of those files, that's the reason you can't open
your database. I hope the one you have is .rmd!
Open RefMan
Close all databases
Tools/Rebuild Database
point it to the .rmd file
It will rebuild the .rmx file
Once you have both, you should be able to open your database again.
If you cannot see extensions (.xxx) in Windows Explorer, go to Windows
Explorer Tools/Folder Options/View and UNCHECK "Hide file extensions for
known file types". It's the default to have that checked, but it's
lethal with RefMan--if they can't see the extensions (and how they
differ), people often think they have a duplicate database and delete
one of the files. That generates the kind of problem you are having.
Cheers,
Karyn
