BEWARE THE REFMAN FRAMESHIFT re: <RefMan> Weird problem with Refman 11
and word 2003 SP2Settings for append letter to year...
Alert for all of you who use Edit Citations to add or remove references.
I call this the "frameshift" problem [a genetic metaphor). It happened
regularly with RM11.0.0 (see below), and whereas RM11.0.1 seems to
decrease but as I found out tragically working on a grant last week, it
can still occur.
As I noted, the danger is related to the "Edit Citation(s)" button on
the toolbar.
- I have never had a problem using this to exclude author or year, or
add prefixs and suffixs.
- The problem arises using it to "Insert" or "Remove" citations. It
works fine most of the time, but will (with regularity) "do the
frameshift". What happens is that all of your references are shifted up,
for example, to incorrect positions in the text . Once this occurs,
there is no fix other than to go back to (or compare with) an earlier
version or manually reinsert everything. Indeed, we now regularly save
sequential versions of important documents as we prepare them to be able
to recover from this with moderate grace.

This was a bug in Refman that the new patch (11.0.1) fixes -- install it
NOW.

Subject: <RefMan> Weird problem with Refman 11 and word 2003 SP2
Hi,
I faced a weird problem with Refman 11 and word 2003 SP2. I have written
a paper of 98 citations. After moving a paragraph (it contains several
citations also) to later section, my citations suddenly got messed up
orderly. Starting from that shifted paragraph, my citations are
physically moved forward.
Example,
original is XXXX [33;34] YYYY [50] ZZZZZZ [70]
now is XXXX [50] YYYY [70] ZZZZZZ
I have resolved it manually, but hope to avoid this terrible hardship
again.
I recalled removing some citations from that shifted paragraphs , but
unsure what I did wrongly.
Thanks
James
