Re: Convert Endnote to Refman & vice versa
Author: Anton Baer    Posted: Fri, 03 Mar 2006 16:35:00 -0800

Hello,
I had to import citations from many different journals and over time I
learned that what worked best was to set up my own filter template tags.
The RefMan 9 and later RM 11 templates for specific journals never
worked well. For whatever reason they seemed to be chronically out of
sync with the 'real world.'

Essentially I took all the citations as made available at source as
plain text files and converted the tags to my own tags through a Search
and Replace operation after a second transfer of the text to Word, and
then back to 'text only'.

For example, if one source gave Author as 'AUTH:', I converted this to
the 'AU:' of my tested-by-fire template. I did the same for every other
field. The alternative was to fuss endlessly over each separate journal
format.

When finding abstracts at SpringerLink I still copy the citation with
abstract into a text file and then cut-and-paste manually. This saves a
lot of time and filters out many errors that had inevitably bedevilled
my 'time-saving' downloads straight to RM.

This of course works most economically when dealing with a large number
of citations.

Hope this helps..

Hello Everyone,
For years I have struggled, with little success, with the importing of
citations from Ovid's PsycInfo database at the U of Montreal. I have
contacted RIS's help desk, the U of Montreal librarians, I have tried to

write my own filters, but to no avail. I find that there are too many
reference types (books, book chapters, articles, dissertations, etc) and
that their formatting is too complicated for me to handle this task.
So I was wondering if any of you may have some filters that work with
this database or some other kind of advice on how you might deal with
this problem.
The Ovid database version as listed on our library website gives the
following information :Copyright (c) 2000-2005 Ovid Technologies, Inc.
Version: rel10.2.0, SourceID 1.11354.1.65".
Thank you very much in advance,

Product Reviews

"Overall, Reference Manager is an excellent citation manager. It is simple enough to be used out of the box and not too intimidating for a new user. Equally, though, it contains enough powerful features and customisation to satisfy advanced users."
Information World Review
