Re: Convert Endnote to Refman & vice versa

I have not used the recover tool. I can't find it in RefMan 11, unless you mean the rebuild function. Is dat vanwege vertaling van de nederlandse versie?

I have downloaded the current Endnote 9 demo, and used RIS format export from Endnote and RIS format import into Refman 11. Seems to work, mostly. Not sure whether the export/import generates errors, or whether mistakes in the original Endnote file were present. I really didn't have time (preparing a grant) to troubleshoot this kind of thing. Another work-around I used is just getting the references needed from PubMed, and forget about things like more than 2 initials, diacriticals, umlauts, etc.

A number of Dutch authored papers in the stroke literature had "errors" (IMHO). As clarification, many Dutch have more than 2 initials, and the prefixes used with many names ("de", "van", "van der", etc) are (in Dutch) traditionally not used for alphabetizing. Thus, "Willem Jacob Johannes Maria van der Veen"
becomes "Veen, WJJM, van der" in Dutch telephone books, or "Veen, WJ van der", but PubMed makes it "van der Veen, WJ".

I really, really think, that ISI should unify the software format or provide "translators", software that can read and write in both endnote and refman formats. That, and the automatic generation of synonyms, so that if the download provides full first names, a synonym with initials is generated.

Further suggestions to ISI: Do some real good research in what people are missing in the current versions of the software.

Groetjes,
Han

"Overall, Reference Manager is an excellent citation manager. It is simple enough to be used out of the box and not too intimidating for a new user. Equally, though, it contains enough powerful features and customisation to satisfy advanced users."
Information World Review
