I just received an ad from Thompson offering me an Upgrade to Reference
Manager v.11 Has anyone used it yet? If so, what do you think? Is it ready
for prime time? Barry

I have just downloaded the trial version - Maybe I am a cynic but have they
incorporated web poster into it under an assumed name (web publisher)???

Much of it appears the same as before but they have have'nt given users the
ability to create fields or reference types which would have been nice.

Web publishing looks neat on paper but why does it need an IP number and not
a web address? how does it work? Does it work?

hohum......

Another cents worth:

We have been having problems when special characters (umlauts, etc) have
been stripped out when exporting as a text file. In Refman 11 you can
export/import as xml and the characters are retained.

Barry, many of us were beta testers for this product. Many items have been
improved from RefMan 10.

The Beta Testers could not reveal information about their experience with
version 11 betas. Please remember this to prevent future problems with
RIS...

Karyn, thanks. I did have to sign a confidentiality agreement with ISI on
this - so probably not. I think I can generally say that I did not find any
major problems. Gary

for what its worth:

seems web poster now incorporated within refman 11 and now poster allows you
to search user defined fields. xml export/import means you don't loose
foreign characters like you did when exporting/importing as text files

Product Reviews

"Overall, Reference Manager is an excellent citation manager. It is simple enough to be used out of the box and not too intimidating for a new user. Equally, though, it contains enough powerful features and customisation to satisfy advanced users."
Information World Review

"It's highly recommended for anyone needing a powerful reference tool."
