Dear ref-list

1. Having just upgraded to RefMan 11, I'm keen to use the XML import
/ export options, however a Medline search results file in XML, emailed
to self from http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/login.fcgi won't load,
either when saved as a .txt file or HTML file.

2. The second issue I'd like to solve is automatically to extract
each contact email address into RefMan's User Def 1 field or similar.
(When supplied, lead author's email is added to the present Address
fields in most databases). Has anyone developed a solution for
extracting emails into a separate field ? ?

I actually have a solution for individual filter files (ie not XML) but
its long-winded. It involves first loading the downloaded .txt file
into a Microsoft Word file, then running a VB macro which places a tilde
(the ~ mark) in front of every string with an ampersand (the @ mark).
For some reason my solution only works 50% of the time, other times it
gets into an endless loop and crashes. When it works, The Word file is
then saved as a .txt. Any Import filter files must then be adapted
manually through the Import Filter Editor for the destination field
<Source> to split any information at the tilde (if there is one),
loading post-tilde into User Def 1.

3. Finally a general question. Is there a macro or scripting
language facility anywhere in RefMan ? If not, any plan for either ?

Any advice will be appreciated

Product Reviews

"Overall, Reference Manager is an excellent citation manager. It is simple enough to be used out of the box and not too intimidating for a new user. Equally, though, it contains enough powerful features and customisation to satisfy advanced users."
Information World Review

"It's highly recommended for anyone needing a powerful reference tool."
