try this, it works for office 2003, should do the same for office 2000
1) make sure MS word is not running, check the running process too
2) go to your c:\documents and settings\<your username>\Application Data\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP to find out if your version of RM .wll and .dot file is in there, should be something like RM[**]Cwyw.dot and RM[**]Cwyw.wll
3) if it is not thee, try go to your installation directory of RM and copy the wll and dot file over
4) then move your normal.dot from C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates to, say your desktop or somewhere else
5) start up your ms word and try out if RM is working
if it is not working and cause any problem, shut down your MS word again and copy your original normal.dot back to the folder
hope that helps

I apologise for bothering the list with a problem that I know has been
covered before, but I do not recall the solution.
I replaced the normal template in Word 2000 on my office computer with the
Word 2000 normal template from my home computer. Today I tried to use CWYW
from within word on my office computer, only to find that it was
inoperative. I presumed (and still do) that it was related to my changing
the template a few days ago, so my first thought was to revert to the
original normal template (which I had saved), but this did not resolve the
problem. I ran "RefManConfig.EXE", but this didn't help so I uninstalled
ref manager and then reinstalled it again. However, this has not resolved
my problem either and word is still blissfully unaware of ref man's
existence. I loaded a file in word that I know still contains ref manager
field codes, but the in text refs and bibliography, although still present,
are not amenable to change and do not have their usual highlit appearance.
I fear that I will have to meddle with the dreaded windows xp registry
(gulp).
The ref man documentation offers no solution. Can anyone advise me what the
next step is please.
