I would like to thank those who wrote and referred me to the ref manager
support help file at http://www.refman.com/support/rmcwyw.asp, which does
provide a solution to a common cwyw problem. Unfortunately the solution
proposed there did not work in my case, but it did encourage me to dig
through the FAQ's, which I confess that I had not done before I wrote to the
list. I did find the solution, which I will share as a caveat to avoid
someone wasting their precious time, as I have done. It turns out that I
recently purchased "Snag-It", which I unhesitatingly recommend as a
sophisticated but easy to use screen capture programme. One of the options
on installing it that I unthinkingly accepted was a series of add-ins that
inserted the Snag-It programme icon into each of the Office Suite of
programmes. It turns out that Snag-It (along with "Macromedia FlashPaper",
"Copernic Agent", and "EZPhoto") will conflict with the ref man add-in for
word. This FAQ can be found at
http://www.refman.com/support/faqs/CWYW/faq3.asp. Unfortunately, the
protocol recommended to remove the Snag-It add-in on the ref man website no
longer applies to the latest version of Snag-It, which I have, but it can
easily be found in the Snag-It help file. Once removing this add-in to
Word, Hey Presto!, and my ref-manager was once more accessible for cwyw. I
still think Snag-It is great, and the absence of the icons in the Office
programmes really loses no functionality since Snag-It responds to hot-key
commands.
So my two recommendations to those who rely on ref manager in their work, as
I do, are:
-consult FAQ's before bothering the list
-think seriously before installing add-ins to Word

Subject: RM 11 cwyw won't work in Word 2000
I apologise for bothering the list with a problem that I know has been
covered before, but I do not recall the solution.
I replaced the normal template in Word 2000 on my office computer with the
Word 2000 normal template from my home computer. Today I tried to use CWYW
from within word on my office computer, only to find that it was
inoperative. I presumed (and still do) that it was related to my changing
the template a few days ago, so my first thought was to revert to the
original normal template (which I had saved), but this did not resolve the
problem. I ran "RefManConfig.EXE", but this didn't help so I uninstalled
ref manager and then reinstalled it again. However, this has not resolved
my problem either and word is still blissfully unaware of ref man's
existence. I loaded a file in word that I know still contains ref manager
field codes, but the in text refs and bibliography, although still present,
are not amenable to change and do not have their usual highlit appearance.
I fear that I will have to meddle with the dreaded windows xp registry
(gulp).
The ref man documentation offers no solution. Can anyone advise me what the
next step is please.
Charles
