Hi everybody,
I use Reference Manager 11 on a Windows terminal server.
I encounter problems when using the Cite While You Write feature with MS Word 2003 :
When selecting references in RefMan, and then clicking on "Insert Marked Reference(s)" the references appear in Word.
On the opposite, when working with Word, clicking on the RefMan toolbar, on the "Insert Citation" icon, nothing is inserted, even when references are selected under RefMan.
Did anybody face this problem before?

Hi Karim,
You may want to check your Reference Manager addin files in Word.
...go to "Tools > Templates and Addins" and look at the files that are checked in the box below.
If that does not work, you may have an addin file for Word that is conflicting with RM's addin files. I had a similar problem with TechSmith's SnagIt until I disabled its Word addin.

Hi Susan,
I opened Word and only check RM11CWYW.dot and RM11CWYW.wll but this did not change anything.
With Reference Manager opened, when I click on any icon of the RefMan toolbar in Word, nothing happens.
Maybe I have a problem with the macros security level. I have to check this also.
Thanks for your answer and have a nice day!

Same thing with me. Snagit was crashing RefMgr which was crashing Word. Need to remove all fields from my Word doc, remove Snagit, reinstall RefMgr and reinsert all my refs. This restored to me the functionality of the RefMrg toolbar in Word. A pain -- yes. Seems like cutting and pasting from old docs that has used RefMrg 9 or 10 caused issues with v 11.

Hi Karim
There is a known conflict with FlashPaper ( a pdf creator) which is an Word add-in which installs automatically when you install some softwares from Macromedia eg Contribute. This will create problem your describing, the easiest solution is to uninstall it, then toolbars for RM and Endnote work properly.
Kind regards

I also check thar there is no other files in my Word start-up folder.
Some contributor talked about a possible conflict with FlashPaper but I have Acrobat only.
Do I have to uninstall Acrobat also in order to RefMan to work properly?

Karim:
I don't think Acrobat is a problem -- my wife has AcPro Ver 7 running and I
run Ac Pr Ver 6 with no problem with RefMan. Since you checked macro
security the only other suggestion is to see if there is something in your
normal tempate.
Close Word, go to C:\Documents & Settings\[Your User Name]\Application
Data\Microsoft\Templates and take the final NORMAL.DOT and rename it
NORMALKARIM.DOT. Then restart Word (a new NORMAL.DOT will automatically be
created. Turn off macro security, make sure that the CWYW files are in Word
startup and see if it works. If so, you can either rebuild your menus,
macros, etc (if you customized) or just go from there.
Good luck.

Hi everybody,
I use Reference Manager 11 on a Windows terminal server.
I encounter problems when using the Cite While You Write feature with MS
Word 2003 :
When selecting references in RefMan, and then clicking on "Insert Marked
Reference(s)" the references appear in Word.
On the opposite, when working with Word, clicking on the RefMan toolbar, on
the "Insert Citation" icon, nothing is inserted, even when references are
selected under RefMan.
Did anybody face this problem before?

Dear Karim
Acrobat does not cause any conflict with Reference Manager, I've had them
running side by side in Word for several years, so you don't need to
uninstall Acrobat.
It was only when I had Macromedia Contribute installed on my pc that I
found that my Reference Manager toolbar stopped working. It took a bit of
digging around to discover that installing Contribute caused the problem as
it installed this other pdf writer (Flashpaper) addin into Word which
conflicts with the Reference Manager toolbar. This was confirmed by the
technical support team at Adept Scientific - the main UK vendor of
Reference Manager. Have you tried contacting your vendor's technical
support team?
Kind regards

I checked Reference Manager addin files in Word.
My problem was due to TechSmith's SnagIt software Word addin. I renamed the file "SnagIt Add-in.dot" in "C:\Program Files\TechSmith\SnagIt 7" directory to "SnagIt Add-in.dotted" and everything is fine.
Regards and good luck.
