RefMan 10 with Z39.50 protocol
Author: Berdii Mostafa    Posted: Wed, 18 Feb 2004 16:57:36 +0100

Hi,

I am using Reference Manager 10 and I want to use a server which use Z39.50
protocol

I have all the parameter to create an entry in the list of Z39.50 servers

First I create the Host and the connexion test is SUCCESS

When I want to define the database, the dialog box let me enter the name of
this database and I let the format to US-MARC
I valid my entries with OK and ...

Noway, I have an empty entry under the Host I created but when I ask to
modify this database entry, I find the database name like entered before

Naturally, I can't make a research on this database

Somebody has experienced this problem

Thanks for any suggestion

M. Berdii

hi

had a similar problem , i wanted to use ovid using z39.50 (as i have ref
man 9.5 and can no longer use pubmed) , after much trial and tribulation ,
i was supplied with a set of passwords from ovid (direct) and can now use
ovid but have not yet expanded to using other databases

hope this helps, personally i would prefer to use pubmed but will have to
update to do this

regards

Hi,

I had a similar experience. After months of "trial and tribulations",
someone at
Ovid (Silverplatter) figured out that it required three stars after the
input of
the database abbreviation rather than two. I now have access to Psychlit and
medline; however, only journal articles are downloaded correctly.
Bookchapters
etc are really screwed up. Any suggestions?

"Overall, Reference Manager is an excellent citation manager. It is simple enough to be used out of the box and not too intimidating for a new user. Equally, though, it contains enough powerful features and customisation to satisfy advanced users."
Information World Review
