When inserting a link to PDF, it should be possible to press Ctrl-K (or pressing the green/black icon), instead of choosing from the menu. I've never got this to work. Nothing happens. Is it a known bug in RM 11?
It doesn't work for the Web/URL field either (though the behavior is slightly different as, in the latter, I get an auditory signal also).

Right-click in the field, not the symbol. Choose insert file. Voila!
