Hello:

I am using the RefMgr Professional Network Edition 1984-2001

Occasionally I have noticed when I upload a citation from an Ovid
database such as Journals@Ovid or Medline that all the elements of the
Journal citation are put in the Journal Name field instead of the volume
going in the volume field or the page numbers going in those fields.

Anyone have any idea why this is so and what I can do about it?

Thanks for your time.

Hi Ellen:

Two reasons that I can think of:

1) Your filter is outdated. See
http://www.refman.com/support/rmfilters.asp to get the Ovid Web (All
databases) filter; this seems to be the most current one from TRS.

OR

2) When you are importing citations from the Ovid platform (for either
Medline, Embase, CINAHL, etc), and you are selecting Reprint/Medlars as
the Results Format option, but may be forgetting to select specific
fields in the Fields column in the Results Manager. Rather than simply
selecting Citation + Abstract + Subject Headings, you might want to
click Select Fields and customize the fields yourself (click on each,
abstract, MeSH subject headings, etc).

Selecting fields this way should also work with Direct Export in Ovid.

RE: Journal field contains all the elements but need
Author: Bryant T N    Posted: Tue, 02 Aug 2005 13:45:00 -0800

Ellen,

I have had the similar problem with OVID in the UK. It is OK with
Medline references but not CINHAL, I tried saving to text file and
Direct Export from OVID with the same result. The process was:

Login in to OVID.
Search CINHAL
Display Results and the Results Manager

Version 1
Select All on this page | Complete Reference | Direct Export (results
format)
Saved references 1 to 10
Look at Reference 1 PubDate is missing, Volume is 2004 Nov-Dec; 13

Version 2
Select All on this page | Complete Reference | OVID Import Text file
using Ovid ONLINE(OVID) Saved references 1 to 10 Look at same Reference
PubDate is 1914, Volume is 2004 Nov-Dec; 13

I reported this to AdeptScience the UK distributor who were very helpful
and supplied a revised OVIDWeb.Cap filter within a day which fixed the
problem for Direct Export. However they felt it was an OVID issue which
I agree with since the text file import using OVID ONLINE(OVID).cap
should work for both PubMed and CINHAL.

I have also reported the problem to OVID support who replied to me but
have not come back with a solution to the problem.

Thank you for your suggestion. I am going to update my Ovid filter and
see if that solves it.
