Hello,
We've been discussing yet another dissatisfied procite customer's
problems on dm-l, the mailing list of the digital medievalist community
of practice. One member suggested refworks may be a suitable
replacement. Does anybody know this program? http://www.refworks.com/
I'd be very interested in members of this list's experiences. With your
permission, I'll pass them on to dm-l.

I am currently planning to put my Procite developed database on the web
using RefWorks. Actually, I am using RefShare which is the web delivery
mechanism that RefWorks uses for sharing RefWorks developed databases with
other users.
I've been very pleased with the way that I have be able to import the
Procite database into RefWorks. They have developed an import filter that
works good. For the read only web user, RefShare provides nearly all the
searching and citation generating capabilities the you would want in good
bibliography developing program. It gives the user a lot of import options
once the user has completed searching a bibliography.
The one drawback is that Refworks with RefShare capabilities has an added
cost to using RefWorks alone. Its a little expensive but a lot cheaper that
using Reference Manager and having to pay for Reference Manager being on a
dedicated server provided by a service provider.
Note all the comments I've address are related to my being an "individual
subscriber". RefWorks does have a institutional subscription as well.
Their help desk has been very supportive and I recommend talking to them for
advice.
