Converting from EndNote (Mac) to ProCite (windows)
Author: Karen A Robinson    Posted: Mon, 17 Oct 2005 17:03:40 -0400
all --

I've searched archives but have not found an answer to converting files in
this direction -- from EndNote in Mac version to ProCite in Windows. (I've
done the other way around using export file in RIS format.)

any suggestions?

thanks,
Karen

I don't have an answer to your questions, just some thoughts.

Can Mac EndNote export a database into Win EndNote format?
Win ProCite can read in Win EndNote.

This site may provide a pass-through but I can't really tell:
http://www.cas.org/Support/scholar.html

This site has a lot of info on conversions:
http://www.library.uq.edu.au/endnote/new_in_endnote8.html
Might be someone you could ask... they have a "feedback" link in the bottom
right corner of the next page which leads to a form. Next to the form is
"Ask a Cybrarian".

This part of the same site seems to be saying that any version of Pc or Mac
EndNote database can be opened on either platform
(http://www.library.uq.edu.au/endnote/technical.html ), so if you have
access to Win EndNote then you could open the Mac EndNote db and convert it
to Win EndNote and then we're back to "Win ProCite can read in Win EndNote."

Well, good luck.
Laurel

If you have access to Mac ProCite you can export from EndNote in RIS
format (File/Export/Text only) and then import into ProCite
(Tools/Import Text File) then Win ProCite can open Mac ProCite
databases. You would need the RIS Mac input filter which I will send
to anyone who requests it.

Thanks to everyone who responded to my question (message below). I thought
I would report on what we ended up doing, in case this helps anyone else:

-- I happened to have an old version of EndNote (version 5) for Windows
and installed that on my computer

-- my colleague with the Mac then created an export file using RIS (saving
as text)

-- I opened EndNote and then imported the text file.

-- once saved as an EndNote Windows database I was able to open it in
ProCite Windows

Not sure what we would have tried next if I had not remember my
still-in-the-plastic free copy of EndNote5.

thanks again,
Karen
