I've been running Procite 5 on XP Home, and have on XP Pro in the past with
no problems. If you think it's the Operating system, try running XP's system
file checker via start -> Run -> "scf /scannow" (without the quotes)

You will have to put the original XP Pro/Home installation disk into the CD
drive and let it do its thing. It'll take a few minutes to complete and will
probably reboot.

You can also check to see if the disk has any bad sectors on it by going
into My Computer -> Right click your hard drive, and select properties. From
here you will have to select the Tools tab, and select the check now button
under Error Checking. You will have to reboot your machine for the error
checking to run as it needs exclusive access to the disk. Again, it'll take
a few minutes to complete.
