Hello, all!

For some reason AOL customers cannot search our RWP databases. They
get an error message which tells them the site is in a form not
supported by their software, and that the fault lies with the server,
not AOL. This is puzzling, as the server software is Microsoft. Has
anyone else run into this?

I suspect the problem is your browser > AOL uses a lame version of IE.
When I use my mother's AOL account on a Mac, I immediately switch to
Netscape to surf the Net. Download either the current version of IE or
Netscape and use it once you are on the Internet.

Diana,
My initial suspicions were correct. It is AOL's browser. I got the same
error message and following their instructions found that my preferences
were set correctly. Using Netscape V3.01Gold while connected to AOL
worked fine using the search term 'smoke' (seemed like a good test
term). AOL's browser is behind the times and finding and changing the
RWP display code that offends AOL may be difficult without help from
RIS. You may want to put a notice prior to entry to your catalog for
AOL users to switch browsers, maybe provide a link to IE and Netscape,
until you can find a permanent solution.

I tested RWP using AOL 4 and it didn't work either.

Bob &amp; Lynda,
<br>I was wondering that myself, but Bob answered the question. One wonders
what all the fuss is about in the Microsoft trial concerning AOL's use
of IE when they get a version that is so lacking in capabilities. I just
tried a search using IE V.3.01 and it went smoothly.
<br>This problem IMHO is AOL's not RWP. The code generated by RWP is standard
stuff and should be handled by a competent browser.

Steve,

Do you know if the AOL browser is upgraded when customers load the new
version 4 AOL software?

Maybe to warning to AOL would be for users of verison 3 or below.

I am using AOL 4 on a Mac. I can turn Java on or off, but there is no
choice for Javascript. When I tested earlier, Java was on, but the search
function of RWP did not work.

I just tried AOL 4 from a Windows machine and it looks like IE except that
the Advanced tab is missing in AOL 4. When I tried to search a RWP site, I
received the following message:

UNSUPPORTED WEB VERSION
The Web address you requested is not available in a version supported by
AOL. This is an issue with the Web site, and not with AOL. The owner of
this site is using an unsupported HTTP language. If you receive this
message frequently, you may want to set your web graphics preferences to
COMPRESSED at Keyword: PREFERENCES

All you have to do is change your Preferences in your browser so that Java
and JavaScript are enabled.
Go into your browser, pull down on the 'edit' button, choose Preferences.
Each browser is different, so you may have to look at the other buttons
until you find Preferences. (AOL users click on MY AOL, Preferences Guide,
click on Web - Setup Now - Advanced - Scroll down to Security, Java).

Make sure that Java and JavaScript is enabled!!!
It's just harder to find Preferences in AOL.
