ProCite 4 Read-Only Search Function Broken

Dear ProCiters,
We have licensed the distributable ProCite 4 Read-Only. We load our
bibliography in it and burn the software and database on a CD for
distribution.
Some users report that the Search function doesn't work. It doesn't work
on my Windows 2000, but it does work on a colleague's Win XP Pro. But
then not on the boss's XP.
I have ProCite 5 on my machine but my colleague doesn't. The boss does
not have ProCite 5 (or he didn't until we set it up to see if that would
fix the search problem. It didn't.)
We have explored differences in DLL versions. We have tried reinstalling
and many other diagnostic steps.
Perhaps someone has seen similar behavion in your copy of ProCite,
read-only or not. Any suggestions of routes to investigate -- or
solutions -- will be appreciated.

I (or rather my wife) use ProCite 4 (full edition), and have recently
experienced the same on WinXp after the windows program was updated. But
the search function does works on our laptop which runs on Win2000 and and
my old PC which still is on WinNT
Has anyone any clue to what to do?
Is it worth while to update (when everybody else is talking about quiting
ProCite) ?
