This is a copy of a message that I sent to tech support at RISinc on 26 May
and to which I haven't had a reply. I apologise if it is a FAQ, but I
cannot find a message in the list archive that makes it clear whether
anyone else has sorted the problem out.
Since writing the message I have found that ProCite 3.2 seems to work with
Winspirs, but that the field number (9) is deleted by ProCite 4 as soon as
I try to modify the configuration file. I also found that I hadnt been as
successful as I thought with the British Nursing Index cfg file.
I have now spent the best part of three days trying to fix it.
Copy of message follows:
I hope you can help me.
I use Bibliolink II v 1.2 & Procite 4 for Windows NT, serial no.
--------------, and Winspirs v2.1.
I have successfully written a cfg file for the British Nursing Index which
now comes on Silver Platter, and I was helped to sort out the record
separator problem for Medline. But I have been stalled by PsycLit.
I thought my problem was just that I hadnt noticed that the JN field had
changed to SO. I have spent a long time trying to parse SO, but when I
try to transfer data to ProCite the date, volume, issue, pages etc are
partly separated out, but some data don't get transferred at all.
I used to use Reference Manager for DOS 3.3. & only managed to export my
database to ProCite 4 by saving it in RIS format. Even so, a lot of
entries have been truncated. But I'm committed to making ProCite &
Bibliolink work partly on financial grounds, partly because I'm working on
a Cochrane review, and among other things I've also got a book to finish.
I've essentially ground to a halt because I can't update my searches.
The illustrations of dialog boxes etc in my Bibliolink II manual dont
resemble the dialog boxes in my program, so I have to try to work out how
the procedures are different & what that implies...
Do you have a configuration file for Psyclit that's compatible with the
version of Winspirs that I am using, or could you help me understand the
instructions for customization a bit better please?
Thanks in advance.
