I'm sending a note of thanks to those folks who responded with suggestions
on solving the Notebook to Procite conversion. This includes the technical
support staff who did respond to my email.

The issue turned out to be the way that I looked at the exported data (from
Notebook). I had not noticed that the sets of double CR-LF characters (0x0D
0x0A) did not show up at all in DOS (or text editor for that matter). This
makes sense now after thinking about it, as DOS will simply "print" them to
the screen. Procite was doing it's job correctly, though it would have been
nice to be able to globally edit out the odd characters (future version
perhaps?).

I had to look at the exported files using a binary editor to see that
Notebook was adding the garbage characters at around every 80 characters or
so, presumably where the old Notebook program (a DOS derelict) was
truncating fields at the end of a line.

I want to make a plug for a great little program. The binary editor I used
was HEXEDIT for Windows <http://www.hsys.com/hex2.htm>. Not only was it
easy to see the garbage characters, Hexedit cleaned them up (relatively)
quickly with a global Find/Replace. Not to bad for a utility available for
free.

Having solved our problems with Procite. I'll be signing off this list, but
if there are any future problems related to export/import into Procite
(from Notebook, perhaps), I'll be happy to answer questions directed to me.

Again, my thanks.

Michael
