Sounds like a major problem, all right.

1) Concerning the repetition of some entries, are you checking for
duplicate entries?

2) Are you using one Workform throughout? If not, the difference in
fields may be throwing off the sort if your sorting title appears, say,
in Field 04 in one workform and Field 09 in another.

3) Check to see if you are, indeed, Selecting ALL Records when indexing
and sorting.

I can't tell you much else without knowing what other steps you're
taking, how many Workforms you're using, etc., but this should be a
start.
