**** PRESS RELEASE ****
Research Information Systems Announces the Release of
ProCite(R) "Cite While You Write" for WordPerfect and Office 97
For immediate release
Carlsbad, CA
Research Information Systems announces that ProCite's "Cite While You
Write" method of generating bibliographies now adds support for
Corel(R) WordPerfect(R) and Microsoft(R) Word(R) 97 . "Cite While You
Write" enables you to cite references and format bibliographies from
within your word processor.
David Kochalko, president of RIS, states "The `Cite While You Write'
method of citing references and formatting manuscripts is the best on
the market. With ProCite, you can enter virtually any identifying
text (author name, keyword, words in a title, journal name,
publication date or record ID) to link to a ProCite record. If
multiple references are found in your database that match the
identifying text, ProCite displays a list to allow you to select the
proper citation."
He added, "Our customers have requested additional word processing
support, and with this release, ProCite now supports Microsoft Word
Versions 6 and 7, Microsoft Word 97, Corel WordPerfect Versions 6.1
and 7. Localized Microsoft Word support is also included for the
Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Hungarian, Italian,
Japanese, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swedish
and Turkish languages."
The ProCite product line includes ProCite, a PC-based personal
bibliographic database management program and BiblioLinkr II, a
program used to import reference data from online, CD-ROM, and
diskette-based services into ProCite. ProCite also offers access to
bibliographic information available on the World Wide Web (WWW) with
its NetCite feature. NetCite allows you to capture and store a WWW
page title and URL directly into a ProCite reference. Using that
information, ProCite can then also launch your browser and go
directly to a Web page. In addition, you can post WWW-formatted
references directly to the WWW using ProCite's HTML output styles.

Does this mean that those of use who have been waiting so long for this
feature for wordperfect will get a free upgrade?

Dear Sue, dear procite representative,
your news sound great, but we have to know the cost. We updated last
year and would like the conditions for getting the new release, which is
really the first step beyond the DOS version as I see it. Currently, we
have a Novell network licence for five users.
Sincerely,
Hugo Scheer

Julie,
I also use pro-cite on a Mac. From what I have read and heard from
RIS, the Mac version of pro-cite is on its own. I suspect that RIS is
only giving lip-service to the Mac.

I also would like to join to this question about the MAC procite version.
Procite Mac is an out-dated product. We, Mac users, need A CLEAR ANSWER
from RIS about the future of Procite on the MacOS platform.

The problem is that sentiment has nothing to do with it. They will =
support the Mac if it makes economic sense for them to do so. Otherwise =
they can't afford to. The question is: does it make economic sense? =
That is not so clear. It may in the short term, but I have my doubts =
about the Mac's staying power with such a small share of the market. Of =
course, their share of the market among academics is not insignificant, =
but that is likely to dwindle. I imagine ProCite's main concern now is: =
consolidate ProCite with RIS's other package somehow, soon, into a =
Windows 95/97/NT product and stay ahead of the competition (read =
EndNote). Everything else may have to fall off by the wayside.
My two cents' worth.
