Hello,
I have set up Procite to function as a "library catalog" for multiple users
on a project. I want to prepare a "users manual" which provides
instructions for basic functions (searching for records, sorting, etc.), as
well as creating reference lists in Wordperfect or Word.
Has anyone created a similar manual and would be willing to share it? I
thought it might be useful to see how others presented the information, as
opposed to starting from scratch.
Thanks in advance,
Samantha Helfert, M.L.S.

Andy and other folks using ProCite for library cataloging:
I'd appreciate a copy, as well, though we're now upgrading
everyone to v.5 in the National Park Service. We are also
using ProCite as a library cataloging and collection management
tool. Most of the park "librarians" are park rangers with no
training in library science and the responsibility is one of many
"collateral duties" (i.e., they get maybe 4 hrs per month to work
on the library).
I wrote an extensive procedures manual to supplement the
vendor manual way back when we were using the DOS version
and have not had time to update it for the Windows version.
So, anything anyone's done for any Windows version would be
very helpful for us (always easier to build on what someone else
has done than to start from ground zero). The main difference
with v.5 is the Internet Search utility, which for folks using the
program as a cataloging tool is a critical enhancement. Means
cataloging a title can be done via importing records from library
catalogs on the Internet, rather than keying in the CIP data on
the verso of the title pages.
Perhaps all of who are using ProCite as a library cataloging tool
could take what you've done and update it for v.5 and embellish
it, as needed, divvying up the sections among us (i.e., copy
cataloging, printing shelf lists, searching, even making labels --
we have an inhouse label production program build using DBASE
and C+ and then compiled with CLIPPER that we'd be happy
to share with anyone that could use it). Then each one of us
could customize the generic version of the procedures for our
respective users, as needed. What does everyone think
this idea? (And what versions are you using?) We could maintain
the generic version on a public ftp site.

Amalin Ferguson
