Regarding the problem with psychinfo from webspirs. I don't know about
the Mac environment, but in the Windows environment, a config sile that
properly parses the SO field for multiple document types is available.
Full information below including URL. Please forgive a few references
specific only to U of Michigan:
I want to draw your attention to the availability of a resource which can
make doing social work and social science bibliographical research much
more accessible. It requires the use of Procite 5, which is admittedly a
pricey ($99 at the Union computer showcase) program, but one which adds
new functionality in its current version. (Namely the ability to handle
uploads of records from databases such as EconLit and SocioFile and Social
Work Abstracts which contain records of various document types, such as
article, book chapters, dissertations, etc..) Procite 5 is now on the ITD
software load, and thus can be used with the following configuration file.
The Silver Platter Configuration file for Procite 5 that is released with
the product and available on the website (ver. 2) doesn't property parse
the source field for the various Silver Platter social science databases.
An updated one was made available to me by ResearchSoft and I continued to
develop it so that with the exception of some journals that have
non-standard source fields (for instance, no volume or issue number), it
works well. (For those journals, the source field is placed in the
journal field but isn't parsed).
Susan Hollar, Director of the Knowledge Navigation Center
at the University of Michigan Library, has posted a zip file of this
configuration file through the URL at the end of this message.. Just
download it and unzip it to your config folder within your procite folder.
If you are using a University machine that has write-protected the
c:\program files\procite5 folder, you can expand it to your c:\temp or
other non-write protected directory.
Then use Bibliolink, Configuration, Database Identification to set the
default to the database whose downloaded search you want to import to
Procite. Go to Procite, Tools, Import Text File, and open your downloaded
search.
In the window that pops up when you open the text file from within
procite, the default under File Type is Tagged. Leave it. The default under
File Format must be changed. Click the down arrow and choose
SilverplatterDover.cfg. If you had to save the file to another
drive, you can navigate to it by clicking on the little box to the
right of the down arrow. Choose the target Procite database; if the new
one you named isn't in the window, click on the little square box to the right
of the target database window and select it. Click Transfer.
The file works with downloads from searches done on the following
Silver Platter databases: Ageline, Criminal Justice, Econlit, Political
Science, Popline, Social Work, Sociological Abstracts. It works with
Silver Platter's online psychinfo, but the University doesn't subscribe to
that. (For PsychInfo, use EndNote filters through Mirlyn.)
I would appreciate any feedback from users of this configuration file. I
am also intersted in feedback regarding any problems users encounter with
the Silver Platter databases, since there are periodic encounters with
receipt of a "document not found, please try again or contact server
administrators" message which can pop up when you try to Save the records
you have searched for. This is a server problem which the library is
trying to solve, but appears intermittent and won't be notice by many
users, other than heavy users.

Michael, do you know if there is a config file that correctly parses the SO
field in other SilverPlatter databases? I'm working with Agricola,
Biological Abstracts, CAB Abstracts, and TreeCD databases from
SilverPlatter, and the same thing happens with that pesky SO field. I've
downloaded and unZipped your config file but it refers only to the databases
you use.
Any help you could offer, or the contact name at Procite/Bibliolink with
whom you worked to create your config file, would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

Kathleen:
I had exactly the same problem for months whenever I exported citations from
the vendor OVID into PROCITE (Windows version 5.0). Since I am involved with
systematic reviews which routinely result in 4,000+ citations at one whack,
I was really annoyed at the prospect of having to manually correct the
source field information into the appropriate fields.
The folks at PROCITE told me go the PROCITE website homepage:
http://www.procite.com/
1) Click on "Support & Services," on the top toolbar.
2) Click on "Export Plug-In for ProCite in Windows" on the left side bar.
Follow the Download Instructions.
This procedure worked for me, but if you have further problems, don't
hesitate to call the PROCITE Technical Support staff [(510) 559-8592]. They
really know their stuff!
