Corrupted file (Word98/ProCite 4.0.3 for Mac)
Author: Herv=?ISO-8859-1?B?6Q==?= CACI    Posted: Sat, 9 Feb 2002 14:13:27 +0100
Dear Listers,

I ran into a *big* problem that desesperates me...

I'm using Word98 and ProCite 4.0.3 for Macintosh (MacOS 9.0.4) to write my
PhD thesis.

I've had no problem writing papers for publications (i.e. less than 30
pages). My thesis includes tables and figures of course, and the Results
section is out 80 pages long now. Some days ago, Word98 began crashing
repeatedly while typing. The file is definitively corrupted: when I try to
reopen it after rebooting, Word98 hangs after 2 or 3 seconds of apparent
correct functioning. I desactivated the automatic spelling without success.
Sometimes, I've been able to browse the file and I found that some tables
were disorganized (i.e. the number and sizes of the columns had changed, and
the text was crushed in the first column).

I started over from a backup file with no apparent problem until this
morning. The problem occured again and I suspect a problem between Word &
ProCite.

I tried to allocated 30Mb to Word and 10Mb to ProCite without success.

Any idea ? Is it a known bug ? Was it fixed in ProCite 5 ?

Thank you very much in advance.

Yours sincerely,
---
