I have ProCite 4.0.3 for Windows and use both Word 2000 and WordPerfect
9 for word-processing. The cite-while-you-write feature does not seem to
be compatible with these recent versions. Does anyone know if there is a
patch that can be downloaded, so that I can use this ProCite version
with the newer word-processors?
I tried running the CWYW Setup file, but it didn't work. Only older
versions of Word and WordPerfect seem to be supported in this file.
I apologize in advance if this question has been answered previously. I
couldn't find it in the archives.
Thank you very much,

Marie,
Procite 4.03 has some bugs in it. When I contacted Procite technical
support about our local problems, they advised us to upgrade to Procite
5.0. This fixed our problems. You may want to consider this.

I'm not sure if this is relevant to your query, but I've found that
CWYW doesn't appear on any word processing packages installed
after ProCite. Re-installing ProCite seems to clear this problem.

Your question has been addressed before, and I am happy to pass along the
information that I learned from this group. I can tell you that I have
tried this solution and it works (at least for MS Word 2000, I'm not sure
about WordPerfect). Good luck.
Jesse.
Here's the information on using PC 4.0.3 with Word 2000:
ProCite version 4.0.3 was released in Dec of 1998, well before the
availability of Microsoft Office/Word2000 for testing. Nevertheless,
as far as we have been able to determine, we do NOT have to make any
program changes for the Word 2000 upgrade.
However, the installer and the cwywsetup.exe program will not locate
the Word 2000 directory, and so the tools for ProCite 4 will not
appear in Word2000. Fortunately, the solution is very simple:
1. Two files must be moved from the ProCite folder to the Word
start-up folder manually. The two files are
PC4WD32.wll
PC4WD8.dot
and they are located in the CWYW folder within the ProCite folder.
These need to be moved to the startup folder; the location of this
folder can be determined by looking under Tools in Microsoft Word,
but it is usually C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Startup.
Copy the two files from CWYW to this location.
2. In Word 2000 there is a Macro Security option that if disabled
will not allow CYWY to work correctly. Look in Tools/Macros/Security/Trusted
Sources: at the bottom of the screen there is a check box "Trust
all installed templates and addins." If deselected a message is
returned while inserting/scanning... " The macro cannot be found or
has been disabled because of your security settings" This message
will also occur if you did not move the PC4WD32.will file. So make
sure that box is selected.
3. Make sure that the Start up directory is correct in the
Tools/Options/File Locations.
4. If you installed Word 2000 on top of Word 97 you should not run
into any problems. If you do check the items above.
Please note that because ProCite 4 was released before Word2000, we
are unable to guarantee compatibility, but we know of no problems
with this combination.

Dear all,
[sorry for two questions in one day]. I'm using procite and writing an
article with footnotes, rather than parenthetical references. I'm using
In-Text Citations to create the bulk of the references in the footnotes.
The first reference needs complete publication information, but the second
reference can be a lot shorter. Is there any way to have a shortened
version for the second reference to a source appear with in-text citations?
Or do I just need to hand edit them when I finish?
thanks again,

I'm new to version 5. Can anyone tell me how to insert a citation in
Word 2002 that has only (Author Date) and does NOT have a reference ID
number after it? I keep getting for example (Author 1987 #320).
