I am using Maple 6.01 under Windows 98 Second Edition. Whenever I issue a
plot command I get a large white space after the command. If I select in
this space I get a border that surrounds what should be the plot. Often
times, a second click or right click will cause maple to crash out. The
same file will look fine on my computer at work where I am running a trial
version of Maple 6.
Has anyone else seen this problem? Is there a fix or workaround?
Thank you,
Peter Laskey

Subject: Missing plot graphics

Hi. This annoying problem depends -at least to my experience- on the graphic
card which is built into the computer. I encounter the same situation with an
ATI card on my desktop PC, while there are no problems on my laptop.
Workaround (in my case): reduction of colors to 256.
Regards
Wilhelm

This problem normally arises with the ATI graphic card. Do you have it
om your computer ? When I shut down the hardware accelleration so that
the opengl
of the Graphic card is not used any longer, it works on my computer.

There is a slightly better resolution of the missing plots than to reduce
the number of colors. Try reducing the acceleration level of your video
card.

I've seen a number of responses to people with the "blank plot" problem.
My experience is that it usually occurs with relatively new PCs with
certain video cards. There appears to be some conflict with Maple's
OpenGL
drivers and these video cards. With other video cards, there's no
problem!
So, is this Maple's problem, or the video card manufacturer's problem?
I'm not sure about how you wish to apportion the blame,
but here are a number of solutions (for Windows PCs).
1. Moving Maple's OpenGL drivers (recommended)
Move or remove the OpenGL drivers provided by Maple, which forces the
use of the Windows versions.
Maple 6: remove glu32.dll, opengl32.dll, openglnt.dll from the
"...\Maple 6\Bin.Wnt" directory
Maple 5.1: remove glu32.dll, opengl32.dll from the "...\Maple V
Release 5.1\Bin.Wnt" directory
Maple 5: remove glu32.dll, opengl32.dll from the "...\Maple V
Release 5\Bin.Wnt" directory
2. Reducing the number of colors displayed
Change the number of colors used to 256.
Click on Start, Settings, Control Panel, Display, Settings, then
change to 256 colors.
3. Reducing Hardware Video Acceleration
Click on Start, Settings, Control Panel, Display, Settings, Advanced,
Performance
and set the hardware acceleration to 1/3 or less.
Note that you have to reboot the PC for this change to take effect,
and that your PC may fail to automatically restart.
4. Using plotsetup() in Maple
This doesn't require any changes to your PC. In a Maple worksheet,
enter the command plotsetup(gdi): (ignore any warning message you may
get).
Problems with this: 2D plots may be in black only, and 3D plots can't
be rotated in real time
(i.e., rotating a 3D plot works as in Maple V Release 4).
The command plotsetup(default): restores the original settings.
Note that plotsetup(gdi): must be executed (once) in each worksheet
which uses plots.
Please note that solutions 1 and 4 were provided to me by Maple
Technical Support.

Mike Stecher reported a problem about missing plot graphics.
I know that problem. Obviously, plot2d produced void output
(also in Maple V Rel.5.1) because of lacking support
for certain types of graphic cards (like ATI..).
Within Maple this problem can be circumvented by using
plotsetup(gdi);
before plotting.
