Why not just use the newsgroup comp.soft-sys.math.maple?

I agree with you on the fact that it can be frustrating to not have the
messages not sent out immediately. But I am unsure about what would happen
if users were split up into 2 mailing lists. But there is one thing I do
think you could do other than immediate distribution that would be an
improvement on this list. I often like to keep the advice I am given (and
some responses to other's questions), but I sometimes delete advice to
other's questions that I end up wanting in the future. I feel it would be
much more convenient and efficient to use a newsgroup rather than a mailing
list. A newsgroup would allow me (and others) to look back at past responses
without needing to fill up our mailboxes and we could also see all the Maple
stuff in one place. But whether it is a mailing list or newsgroup, I would
still like to hear about it.

I'd like to see the MUG divided into multiple discussion groups,
eg

(1) Hardware Questions

(2) Graphics

(3) Linear Alg

(4) Analysis

etc.

I don't have much interest in graphics and hardware questions
right now and such a division would allow be to focus more on
symbolic issues.

I recently visited the webgain site for information on VisualCafe
and found their discussion groups organized according to topic.

I do not agree to using a news group because they do delete threads
after awhile (depends on the server). Since Maple is used by
engineers and scientists who are solving problems in their fields and
are not terribly interested in the "computer science" behaind Maple,
I would disagree with Prof. Israel that a newsgroup such as
comp.soft-sys.math.maple would be the answer.

For myself, I like MUG just the way it is. sure it takes time to get
questions and answers out to the users. But, I have solved many a
problem thanks to my fellow muggers.

hi,

It looks like we will stick with one list then; I'll back burner the 2nd
one.

Thanks for the input on it though.

Jason.

Product Reviews

"Without the Maple software, we would have to spend weeks generating the equations of motion for every experiment. Then the chances that we did it right would basically be near zero. There would always be a mistake somewhere. It is very difficult to set up a dynamic motion model by hand."
- Jean-Claude PiedBeouf, Ph.D Manager of Robotics, Canadian Space Agency

"Its very good - highly accurate and easy to use. The speed of Maple allows me to change equations and quickly reintegrate them into the application, so more possibilities can be explored to achieve the precise effect desired."
Shawn Neely, Senior R & D Director for PDI/Dreamworks
