Hi Muggers
Recently I got several times the error message
expand/bigprod: object too large
even though the maple session was using only 4Mb memory of 256 Mb
I have available. Is there anything I can do to extend the memory
Maple will use for this operation? The expressions I want to expand
contain the difference of two squares, each with about 20 terms.
When working with expressions of this size I would expect that maple
should be able to do the job.
I am using both maple 5 and 6 on a linux computer.
Thanks a lot for your help.
Roland

AFAIK Maple 6 should not do this. Prior to Maple 6, on 32-bit computers
a polynomial could have at most 2^16 terms. Now the limit should be 2^25.
Thus you are likely to run out of time or physical memory before getting
an "object too large" message. Can you estimate the number of terms your
expanded expression should have?
