| I am about to install Yellow Dog Linux on my new G4 Cube, so it is very
| assuring to read that Maple runs well in Mac on Linux. However, Mac on
| Linux is an emmulator, doesn't Maple run much slower?
|
| Also: plots generated with Maple V R5.1 and Maple 6 on a G4 tower and the
| G4 Cube print well in Ink Jet printers (I've tried it in an Epson Stylus
| 600 and a Cannon BJ-something), whereas on laser printers the cursed black
| rectangle appears. I had the color settings to 256 and did not try printing
| with thousands or million colors.
|
| I am in no mood to change Open GL extensions, I think it is up to WMI to
| generate a patch to correct this nasty bug !!
Roberto,
I have run both Maple V and 6 with the Mac-On-Linux emulator on a Mac
8500 running LinuxPPC. My results were:
- Calculation speed is fine.
- Screen redraws, graphics, and opening windows are slower, but usable.
Since I'm running on a 233 mHz G3, you should be able to run Maple at
a reasonable speed with your G4.
Now all we need to do is to convince Waterloo to do a Mac OS X port
that uses the vector processing capabilities of the G4 chips. It
shouldn't take more than a week, right? <grin>
I agree that the OpenGL bug is a severe problem that needs addressing
as soon as possible.
Regards,
Bill
