Hello,
i'm new here, so shortly some informations about me. I'm a german
student studying General Engineer Science/ Allgemeine
Ingeneurswissenschaften at the Technical University of Hamburg/Harburg.
I want to use Maple for my studies and i want to do it under Linux. But
there i have a "small" problem, it won't start. I get the message
"Speicherzugriffsfehler (Core dumped)", means "memory access error" or
so. Does anybody have an idea about my fault? I use Mandrake 7.2(Kernel
2.2.17).
Thanks a lot and please excuse my really bad english

make sure you installed correctly the license manager stuff. That had caused
me some headaches. However, I don't think this is that problem.
You might get some information by running
strace maple
and making note of any problems it shows. Be careful, though, since the
output of strace is huge and difficult to interpret.
It may be possible to gain information by analyzing the core file as well, if
you have a debugger.
I presume that you contacted Maple's help people, and your sysadmin people as
well, and that you tried running maple in command-line mode as well as in
Xwindows. Log in as root, if you have root access, and try maple as root to
see if that works (indicating a permissions problem).
I don't use Mandrake, but that should not be the problem.

No problem.

The solution of this problem was posted last week.
try supress (or rename :-)) the file
./bin.IBM_INTEL_LINUX_REDHAT/libc.so.6 in the Maple directory !

To:
Dear Andre,
did you insert the license file with the name "license.dat" into the
folder "license"? This applies, if you are using Maple 6 on a single
user platform. Things are more complicated if you are working on a
network. Then you should ask your network manager (Rechenzentrum) for
installing the network license manager properly.
All the best Jurgen

RH7/Mandrake 7.X problems (see below) seem to be featuring rather a lot,
so apologies for a repeated fix which solved RH7 troubles:
Delete (or rename)
/usr/local/maple/bin.IBM_INTEL_LINUX_REDHAT/libc.so.6
maple is looking at this before the system copy.
I was advised this worked for mandrake 7.X as well as RH7
