[MUG] What has MAPLE 7 against Mathematica 3?
Author: Donohue    Posted: Tue, 11 Feb 2003 18:02:41 +0100

>> From: donohue "donohue"

Hello,
For some time I have been using both MAPLE V Releases 4 and 5, and I have
often copied the result of a MAPLE calculation and pasted in it an open
Mathematica notebook (Version 3.0) . Recently my institution upgraded to
MAPLE 7, and I tried doing my simple copy and paste operation. The result
was an instantaneous shutdown of the poor Mathematica 3. I don't mean just
the notebook into which I was pasting, but the whole program disappeared
from the screen. Now, I can get around this problem by opening the old
MAPLE V 4, pasting it there, re-copying, and pasting into Mathematica 3,
but there probably must be a better way. The reason I use both MAPLE and
Mathematica is historical, the latter has a nifty Feynman graph evaluator
which MAPLE, as far as I know, doesn't.
Does anyone have any advice.
Thanks in advance.

I sometimes have problems cutting and pasting, often solvable by pasting
into a text file, then copying from there to the destination application.

I was having a similar problem copying from Maple 8 and pasting into
Outlook Express. It was solved by using the Copy as Maple Text option
under Edit.

I have had the same problem pasting from Maple 8 into MS Outlook Express 6
or MS FrontPage 2000 using Windows NT or XP; it often either does nothing or
crashes OE or FrontPage. Some programs seem to have trouble interpreting
the clipboard format that Maple uses. This is an annoying problem. The
solution that I use is to paste first to Notepad (which is small and simple
and so starts up quickly) and from there to wherever I really want to paste;
Notepad seems to be able to "sanitize" the clipboard contents without
crashing.

Product Reviews

"Without the Maple software, we would have to spend weeks generating the equations of motion for every experiment. Then the chances that we did it right would basically be near zero. There would always be a mistake somewhere. It is very difficult to set up a dynamic motion model by hand."
- Jean-Claude PiedBeouf, Ph.D Manager of Robotics, Canadian Space Agency

"Its very good - highly accurate and easy to use. The speed of Maple allows me to change equations and quickly reintegrate them into the application, so more possibilities can be explored to achieve the precise effect desired."
Shawn Neely, Senior R & D Director for PDI/Dreamworks
