HI MUGERS

How can I import .rtf files into maple? I don't see any import option in
the file button to do that but I read that it is possible. I use Maple 8.

Thanks a lot.

As far as I am aware you can't. But why do you want to? If you want to
write Maple source code in (say) MS Word then I suggest you save it as plain
text and then read it into Maple, which should work. (However, I would not
use Word for such an application; I use Word only for some document
preparation and Emacs for almost all other non-trivial editing tasks.)

I briefly considered using RTF export as a mechanism for publishing Maple
worksheets, but (at least using Maple 6) I found that the Maple output in
the RTF files was all represented as bitmaps which are effectively not
editable and scale very badly. I concluded that the result would end up
looking horrible and I used LaTeX/EPS export instead.

The imports are done from the Insert menu. Then select Object, and then
Create from File.

Yes, RTF is not useful for source code, but it can be a useful way to get
formatted text into the text fields of a worksheet. Indeed, if you select
Create New instead of Create from File, then you can get your favorite
editor to pop up.

Nonetheless, to make a quick slideshow or poster presentation, I sometimes
find it useful to format the equations and plots in Maple and then put on
the finishing touches with Word. It doesn't work very well, but sometimes
it is quicker than using Latex or PowerPoint.

Product Reviews

"Without the Maple software, we would have to spend weeks generating the equations of motion for every experiment. Then the chances that we did it right would basically be near zero. There would always be a mistake somewhere. It is very difficult to set up a dynamic motion model by hand."
- Jean-Claude PiedBeouf, Ph.D Manager of Robotics, Canadian Space Agency

"Its very good - highly accurate and easy to use. The speed of Maple allows me to change equations and quickly reintegrate them into the application, so more possibilities can be explored to achieve the precise effect desired."
