Many letters have been written to MUG concerning putting labels
on maple graphical output. I think it is time that someone do the
community a service and face this problem head on.
When I want to include Maple output in a publishable paper, I must save
the file as an eps file, export it from my Sun to a Macintosh, send
it through a program called EPSFConverter, use Freehand to modify the
labelling Maple put on the figure, add labels, shading, arrows, etc.,
and then export the results into a Tex document. One other thing that
I have not tried to do yet, but others want, is to use Tex to create
the labels that I put in with Freehand.
Although I have worked out a system that gives quite acceptable
results, obviously it is very involved and requires specific
hardware and software. When any of these are changed I run the
risk of having to come up with a new scheme.
We need for graphics what Donald Knuth (Tex) did for typesetting.
