A bit old, but it seems Mathcad 5+ gives the correct answers

First, what are the verified bugs with version 8.03 of Mathcad? Of great
interest to me, are there ones in the symbolic portion. I believe, any
proven bugs that I learn about now may save me time in the future.

Second, I tried symbolically simplifying
((a^(-1)*b^3)/(a*b))^(-1/2)*((a*b^(-1))/(a^4*b^2)^(1/3). Can someone verify
if it's my mistake and Mathcad does simplify to 1/b^2 (Please send me your
file if Mathcad provides you the correct simplification).

Third, I tried solving 2=(x+y)/(x+xy) for x and MathCAD's solution provided
"not" x=y/(1+2y) but a solution with x on both sides of the equation. Again,
please can someone verify if it's my mistake and that Mathcad does solve to
the form that I need. (Please send me your file if Mathcad does provide you
the correct simplification).

Kind Regards,

William

Not exactly. From what William expects it to simplify to, his expression is:
[(a^-1*b^3)/(a*b)]^(-1/2) * [(a*b^-1)/(a^4*b^2)]^(1/3)

which simplifies to 1/SQRT(b^2/a^2) * [1/(a^3*b^3)]^(1/3)

My view is that the above is correct, the truly general answer, and
that 1/b^2 appears to discard, at all stages of simplification,
everything but the real positive branches. I've tried specifying all
this using "assume", but can't get it to work so far.
