As you say, the rtf would be dead.
How I do this is to keep 2 files, the word and the mathcad (but read
on). In word I do paste as a link. What this does is basically paste
into word the command to go to the mathcad file, find the area
x1y1-x2y2 and copy it in. So to get the results into Word, not just
the equations, you need to have the mathcad open and fully calculated.
If you change the mathcad then F9 will update the word areas. But,
mathcad (or word?) has a bug in this respect in that each area uses
memory which is not released until the mathcad file is closed. Under
win98 it is very easy to run out of memory (well resources to be
exact). So after an F9 you need to close and reopen the mathcad file
(mathcad can stay open). Even under XP this is a good idea with large
files.
If you just paste and copy mathcad into word what word does is
embedded a copy of the WHOLE mathcad file at that point so if you do
what I tend to do, namely: words/mathcad/words/mathcad etc. then
normal paste and copy grows the word file very rapidly. Plus each of
the mathcad bits is not related so changes do not propagate.
Using my method if you move bits in the mathcad you have to repaste
since the paste is just an area in the mathcad - no intelligent to
follow your changes (although I have written a rough macro to
partially automate such corrections)
Finally I save the word file as another file then do select all
(Ctrl+A) and convert all embedded objects to pictures (Ctrl+Shift+F9).
Note this breaks all links so you need to make sure everything is up
to date before (i.e. F9). Also, this is a one way process so you also
need to keep an editable version of the word file too.
The Ctrl+Shift+F9 version is however viewable by anyone with word or
word viewer. Only those who need to edit it need the edit version and
a copy of mathcad. The edit version is fully live - change a constant
in the mathcad file, F9 to update the word and all the equation in
word have their new values.
