Hi All
As far as I know the Mathcad Platinum package has only been rolled out in
the UK and Denmark so sorry to all our readers in other countries who may
wonder what this is all about.
As Stuart points out, of course we want Mathcad users to migrate to the
latest version. We think added-value offers benefit users as well as
helping us to generate extra business to fund product development and
customer support. We have done may of them over the years! They do not
imply any failings in the product. In fact we think Mathcad 11 has been
very well-received by users, and by posters to this list.
We think there are plenty of good reasons to upgrade to Mathcad 11
(multi-level Undo/Redo, mixed data format tables, PDE solve blocks etc).
The "extras" supplied with the Platinum offer provide a great deal of
additional content and functionality and if you have a need for them, as
many do, the offer makes your software budget go further.
I'm sorry Mark Smith considers us inept, ouch... Mark, please let us know
in what ways we've let you down and we'll endeavour to put things right.
This "Platinum" offer is perhaps a bit cheesy as they say in the USA
although it is of course beautifully designed (our marketing department
love it because it has extra platinum ink). If you ignore the name of the
offer it really boils down to a way to get some of the add-ons available
for Mathcad free when you either upgrade to Mathcad 11 or buy a new copy.
It's also not a special to get you to upgrade just before the next version
comes out. I am in the US visiting MathSoft at the moment and although
they are of course looking at what to have in the next version it is a long
long way from being available as far as I can judge.
I am passionate about Mathcad, I really think it is a fantastic tool that
every engineer and scientist should have on their computer. We just keep
trying to come up with different ways of getting more people to get hold of
the latest version. Any suggestions as to how we can do a better (and less
cheesy) job of this please let me know.
Thanks for your comments, please keep them coming!
Best Regards
Paul Bragg
