QUESTION
========

Is there any way when working with new sheets that a title sheet can be
automatically inserted (i.e. when you come to the end a work sheet and you
go to the next page your title block appears with your new sheet)

With Mathcad 7 Pro you can do this using Template, if I have understood
your requirement.

Sorry I was not very clear. I have created a template, and have inserted my
title block on page1, but when I come to the end of page one and go
automatically to page 2 I want my title block to appear with the new page.
Now I know I can insert one in the template but you get to the point how
long is a piece of string, if I was to create a template with 25 pages all
with my title block but only wanted to create a file with 3 pages. Then
when fi have inished I would have to delete the rest of the pages or they
would print out as well. The same applies if I find when I get to the 26th
page I need to start creating the templates manually again.

Hope this is not too confusing??

I thought my response was probably too obvious.

I just did some experiments with a Template. Anything defined as a
Header or Footer gets carried from page to page correctly and page
numbers update correctly. However, anything in the body of the source
worksheet saved as a template only appears on the first page and has to
be copied manually to subsequent pages. Presumably this is where your
problem arises.

I can think of other possible ways of getting the data from page 1 onto
other pages but they would all involve more keying and complexity than
simply copying using edit.

Is there any way to automate the input procedure for variables? My
specific example is that I want to perform the same steps of calculation
over and over for different conditions and want a template to come up
and then to punch in the numbers. Identifying the fields and inputting
them manually can be tiresome. Does MathCAD support some form of dialog
box inout method?

A method that a lot of users prefer when they have a
template that they use over again is to use "global
definitions". This is a method for assigning variables in
such a way that these are evaluated before local
definitions.

It is represented by a triple equals sign and is available
either from the palette or by hitting the tilde key (~) and
can be used in place of the :=. This means all the
variables that need to be changed can be located at the same
part of the document making them easier to locate and
change.

I hope this is of use to you please let me know if I haven't
understood your request correctly.

Hello,

Here are some instructions for getting an input box to pop up in your
Mathcad document.

If you go to Insert..Component..Scriptable Object..New Bitmap
Image..VBScript Language. choose 0 input and 2 outputs and ignore the
warning message which comes up, it will insert a bitmap into your document
which has a VBScript running behind it. (You can double-click on te object
to fire up Paintbrush if you want to put a nice graphic in there)

You can then enter variable names a and b into the placeholders, right
click on the object, go to Edit Script and paste the syntax below into the
editor. When you run the document it will prompt you for two values from a
dialogue box, then pass these out (as a and b) to Mathcad.

Sub ScriptObjEvent_Exec(Inputs,Outputs)
Dim x,y,z
x = InputBox("Please enter first input value:")
y = InputBox("Please enter second input value:")
Outputs(0).Value(0,0) = x
Outputs(1).Value(0,0) = y
End Sub

Another way of getting an input box into Mathcad is by Going to
Insert..Component and choosing Microsoft Forms TextBox, there's also things
like ScrollBars, CheckBoxes and ToggleButtons, all the standard Visual
Basic GUI objects. Adept will be able to supply you with examples of these.

I hope this helps!

[MATHCAD] Question
Author: Bill Mathews    Posted: Fri, 8 May 1998 08:08:28 -0700 (
Hello ALL!
How to solve the next problem using MATHCAD 7 PROFESSIONAL?
----------------------------------
----------------------------------

X=m..l, with any step
Y=k..n, with any step
Z(X,Y)=X^3+X^3/5+Y^2+Y^1/3+5XY+a
m, l, k, n - any real numbers
a, b - constants

X=X\-(m)
Y=Y\-(k)
IF Z(X,Y) NOT EQUAL b
NEXT Y
IF Z(X,Y)=b
STOP
WRITE X & Y INTO MATRIX (2 columns for X & Y,length(X) rows)
NEXT X
---------------------------------
---------------------------------
Thanks!
Bill

[MATHCAD] Re: Question on Internet Library - 8th May '98
Author: G Mariutti    Posted: Tue, 12 May 1998 17:37:53 GMT
I have this simple problem:

My computer (a Mac) does not have Internet connection, but the
connection is in the university computers. The idea is to download
the site of adeptscience where there are some libraries with the
Mathcad examples.
I downloaded the site with WebBuddy and Netscape at home is able to
open it normally. When however it mets a mathcad file is not able to
recognize it as such and open the Mathcad 6+.

I tried then to write the path of the saved internet file
to Mathcad itself (Internet Setup), but nothing. It stacks to the
http:///etc.
Worse, Mathcad is not able even to open the files with the extension
mcd (this probably because they are connected with the rest of the
files in html format.)

How I can resolve this problem and read the mathcad site at home?

Thanks

I use 6+ on a (power) Mac and have not had a problem loading files
downloaded from Adept using Netscape Communicator 4.04. Have you checked
the Netscape preferences to make sure that Netscape knows about
Mathcad? If Mathcad does not appear in the applications section of the
preferences then Netscape will not know what to do with .mcd files.

Hi,

I looking for a formula where I can calculate if an specific x,y position i.e mouse cursor is inbound or outbound a connected polygon with for example 15 x,y points.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

[MATHCAD] Question
Author: Wydo Van De Waerdt    Posted: Tue, 28 Sep 1999 08:57:35 +0200
Thanks for the answers on my previous question.
I have got multiple answers.

What is the procedure, to tell people that I already have a right answer.
So people don't spend their valuable time on an answer I already have.

An other Question is ;

Has someone solved the problem of reading text from a text file.
READPRN of course.
But this text file contains numerical data and 1 row of text
ata..( "loadcase_CMVS22192" is an example of the text data.)

How do I get this text data in a Matrix or a vector ?
Filling a vector by hand with the text data takes too much time, but is
possible.

I am also interested in Mathcad sheets, used for stress analyses.
Just curious of how other people work.
Are there other Aeronautical stress engineers in this mailing list.

Wydo van de Waerdt.

RE: [MATHCAD] Question
Author: Mark Smith    Posted: Tue, 28 Sep 1999 11:03:14 +0100
As far as I'm aware the READPRN function will allow text e.g. a text
description as the first line of the file, but this must not contain any
numbers as the first number it finds it interprets as the start of the data,
if it isn't the start of the data then it will report a read error wrong
data format or something of the source.
your example of text data will cause this problem and the only way I know to
solve the problem is to edit the file and remove this header line or replace
all the numerical values with words e.g. CMVStwo, two, one, nine, two etc.
Regards Mark.

RE: [MATHCAD] Question
Author: Pergande, Albert N    Posted: Tue, 28 Sep 1999 07:55:38 -0400
READPRN normally ignores text blocks in files. I don't think you can have a
mixed text / numeric array in MathCAD, but you can have arrays of text. If
you really truly want to get everything in a text file into an array, you
will have to get a third party DLL that does a hex read/ write, then handle
the results on your own.

I did a search for this sort of thing a few months ago with alta vista, and
recommend the following:

SpecIO.dll for questions or comments contact M. Vol Moody
does a lot of signal processing stuff, as well.

I'd send you a copy, but I'm unclear on copyrights for this guy. It's posted
on the web, however.

How about approaching it a little less directly? Excel is pretty good at
reading in lots of different types of text files and Mathcad can read data
from Excel. Perhaps the two in combination could get your data into Mathcad
in the form you want.
