[mathcad] Can the variables of a function be hidden ?
Author: Jian Wang    Posted: Mon, 18 Dec 2000 17:26:04 -0000
Dear there

I have a self defined multi-variable function which takes almost a while
line just to write the function name and its variables alone. Although
it does not influence the final results but it does possess a problem
when present it. When its differentiation is to be taken, the expression
tends to be very long.

Is there a way of hiding variables of a function so that only the
function name is shown?

Many thanks in adv.

Jian

For numeric differentiation, try this:

A(a,b,c,d..):=MyVeryLongFunctionName(variable_1,Variable_2...)

Otherwise, I recommend using short names.

There is no direct way to hide variable names. You may wish to consolidate
multiple arguments into a single vector argument to shorten the variable
list.

What language gives me easy access to the serial or USB port for contrl of
hardware?
Have used VB6 with some success and great difficulty and others Delphi but
would prefer something as easy as QB45 in the days of DOS.
Can I do it from MATHCAD perhaps by calling VB6 or some DLL?

What you could do is define a mathstyle "invisible" where you take a small
font in white and use this mathstyle for these variables. (Format equation,
from mathstyles select user1 click modify, select a font (and size, make it
smaller if you wish) and select color white click OK and change user1 to
invisible and click OK)

You can call your function: Func( , , , ,)
You can use a prefix operator to eliminate the parentheses. The comma's will
be difficult: you can change the default
variables mathstyle to invisible but this will probably present some other
difficulties..

You can also define a text area, change the text area font property to white
and drag this area above the (,,,) portion of Func(,,,) and bring thta
textarea to front.
