I'm still using Mathcad, but I'm also using Octave as it will run under
both Windows and Linux and is freely distributed under the GNU Public
License. The cost is very helpful for a semi-retired, self-employed
person.
I really like the Mathcad interface and Octave lacks that. I can come
pretty close under Linux, though, by leaving the source file open in an
editor such as Kate and moving back and forth between the command line
(only to run the code) and the editor to make changes.
