Subject: Output style

So here is my story, if anyone can help I would be VERY grateful; I downloaded EndNote Web, and had no problems up till the style of the reference in Word (2003). When going into "Format Bibliography", there was only one output style in the drop-down menu ("author-date"(. I uninstalled and installed it again, thinking that this may solve the problem, but it didn't. I then uninstalled EndNote Web (and checked in Word, there was no longer the toolbar for it) I then got EndNote (full version), and upon going into Word 2003 again, I found that the same tool bar appeared (with this first button Saying EndNote Web. And when going into Format Bibliography, there was again only one output style in the drop-down menu ("author-date"). This is really frustrating me and I have wasted a lot of time trying to fix it in vain. Any help would be MUCH appreciated, I just want to simply use the "Numbered" output format. Many Thanks

Subject: Output Style List corrupted?

Hi, Everybody -- Sorry in advance if this is the wrong subforum for this question. I'm running Endnote X2 under Win XP SP 3. I tried to change my desired Output Style about half an hour ago, and I found to my astonishment and dismay that my Output Style list is missing every entry between "J Chemical Ecology" and "Zygote." (I'm hoping that's not some sort of oblique, cosmic warning or something to that effect.) The contents of the dropdown box in the library window's toolbar and the list in Edit>Output Styles are the same. Obviously, something happened, but I'll be darned if I know what that might have been. I've looked at the Styles folder in my Endnote X2 installation and it looks to be complete -- or at least there are half a zillion entries between "J Chemical Ecology" and "Zygote." I have no idea what happened, here. Is there some way to rebuild whatever Endnote X2 uses to generate the list of output styles? I've tried exiting and restarting Endnote, but that didn't have any effect on the problem. Thanks a million for your time! Mark

Hi, According to the APA manual 6ed every reference should include either DOI or "Retrieved from ..." The last one if DOI is not available for the reference. To include the DOI in EndNote is easy because it is an option for it. I found a discussion on how to include "Retrieved from ..." in Endnote. The solution was to write in the URL field and change the Output style. So far so good, but then "Retrieved from ..." is showing in all references also those with DOI. That's the problem I have, "Retrieved from ..." should only show up when DOI is not available. Can anybody help me with this? Erikar

Dear Community: I am getting ready to submit a journal article to JAALAS (Journal of American Association for Laboratory Animal Science). I noticed that the output style with Endnote X4 does not match the journal citation format used by authors in a recent issue of the journal. From what I can gather, the newest output style is dated 2006. Has anyone created a new output style for this journal? Thanks a lot, Laura Bollinger Lead Research Technical Writer/Editor

I'm helping a student using ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers) style and the one in EndNote isn't correct. Before I start adjusting it, I wondered if anyone has already done a fix.

I have some modified styles I want to back up. However no software (including Windows Explorer) can see any files in the Program Files (x86) > EndNote X > Styles folder created by EndNote since late 2009, even though there are several such files in the Styles folder. Only files created before 2010 are visible. I can see and use these files in EndNote. I can even see the file in the Windows "Save As" dialog box in EndNote. But Windows Explorer and my backup software can only see the files created before 2010. Even stranger, files created before 2010 and modified after 2009 show up in Windows Explorer and in my backup software with the date when they were last modfied in 2009 instead of the more recent modification dates in 2010 and 2011. It is almost as if Windows Explorer and my backup software were accessing some archived version of the folder. EndNote correctly lists the modified date in its dialog boxes. I am baffled. I am not sure if this is an EndNote problem or some strange Windows glitch, but I have googled and can find no reference to such strange Windows behavior. How could Windows even remember what the folder looked like in 2009? Does EndNote X record newer output styles in some strange way? This problem is preventing me from backing up my output styles. I have checked and double checked that I looking at the exact same folder in each case. There are no hidden files. I am using EndNote X with Windows 7 Professional on a ThinkPad T510.

I'm having problems getting Endnote X4 to number the citations the way I want in my paper. This is what I want - All these references talk about the same thing (superscript) 1-4 This is what I have now - All these references talk about the same thing [1,2,3,4] I understand how to get superscript references, but I don't know how to get 1-4 instead on 1,2,3,4. Thanks!

Subject: Output Style journal Gen Comp Endocrinology (Elsevier) is not numbered

The style downloaded from the Endnote support website for the journal General and Comparative Endocrinology does not seem to be the correct one. According to the ionstructions: Text: Indicate references by number(s) in square brackets in line with the text. The actual authors can be referred to, but the reference number(s) must always be given. Reference in square bracket should correspond with numbered item in reference list. Example: "..... as demonstrated [3,6]. Barnaby and Jones [8] obtained a different result ...." List: The list of references is arranged alphabetically in the reference section of the manuscript and then numbered (numbers in square brackets). Examples: Reference to a journal publication: [1] J. van der Geer, J.A.J. Hanraads, R.A. Lupton, The art of writing a scientific article, J. Sci. Commun. 163 (2000) 51–59. According to Endnotestyle: File Name: Gen Comp Endocrinology.ens Last File Posting Date: 10/19/2010 Citation Format: Author-Year Bibliographic Sort Order: Author-Year-Title Does anyone has the correct style for this journal? Thanks, Marianne
