authored/edited series

Does anyone know how to cite a book that was written by a deceased
author and is a part of an edited series? Neither "Book" nor "Edited
Book" nor "Book section" work.

RE: authored/edited series

Hello

I might be able to answer your question, if I understood it a bit better.
I'm in philosophy, and most of the authors I cite are deceased. Many of the
books of such persons are published, centuries afterwards, in publication
series. If it is important to mention the series name, then I make sure that
I choose a style that includes the series name in the bibliographical
format - or, I alter a style by including the "series title" field, which is
part of the "Book" formats (including "Book Section," and "Edited Book"). It
sounds like what you require is the Book format, with a style that includes
the series title name (and any other relevant particulars, like "volume"
etc.) I think many of the humanities styles list such information (Chicago,
for instance). Thus, a work by the author Manu (whose certainly dead) comes
out like:

Manu. The Laws of Manu (Manavadharmasastra). Translated by G.Buhler. Edited
by Max Müller. Vol. xxv, Sacred Books of the East. Oxford: Oxford University
Press, 1886.

"Laws of Manu" and the Sanskrit "Manavadharmasastra" are the titles of the
work by the author, and "Sacred Books of the East" is the series title.

Hope this helps
