This is a message to all libraries who use Endnote and subscribe to
Silverplatter databses hosted at Silverplatter. The Endnote Z39.50
connection of such a setup assumes that you give the user your administrator
password in order to login. At least that's the only username/password we
know of to allow them in. We don't find that acceptable, we can't give out
our administrator password. Has anyone found a workaround to this? In
thinkning about the prob lem, I imagined a Z39.50 pass-thru server/client,
which would listen for a Z39.50 request from Endnote, authenticate using the
campus LDAP or whathaveyou, then act as a Z39.50 client to send the search
to Silverplatter or whatever other databases you configure, and send the
results back to the user.
Maybe others have a better way to solve this problem - this may be overkill
for the problem, but it sounds like a possibility. Please reply with how
your library is handling this situation.
