This must be a common problem, but I've just joined so please
forgive.
When I enter in-text references with Cite-While-You-Write (EN
5) in MS Word (98, Mac), and then, following the author and year
reference, I try to insert the specific page references that I need,
they do not take. That is, the program seems to accept them, even if
I move the cursor about and click here and there. But after a minute
or two, I look back and my hard-won page numbers (now needing to be
looked up again!) have disappeared from the in-text reference.
I understand that we need to set the parameters for each
output style in Preferences. This I have done, tweaking the factory
settings. That seems to work. But I see no option there for allowing
my insertion of specific page numbers relevant to what I am talking
about. (I can direct it to include the pages recorded in the
reference for the whole article or book, but that is not what I need
in a particular reference.)
If anyone can help me out of this I'd be extremely grateful,
since I have wasted several hours with the problem.

Hi Steve
In the PC version you have an option to edit the citation from a button on
the endnote toolbar which gives a dialog box for prefix and suffix. Don't
know if this is the same in Mac.
Cheers,

In EN 4 it is only possible to modify UNFORMATTED citations (ch. 10 of the
EN 4 manual gives a list of examples of modified citations). I don't know EN
5, but I suppose the same procedure here.
