There is another related post about this compatibility (http://community.thomsonreuters.com/t5/EndNote-General/X4-amp-Word-2011-Mac/m-p/12125). In my response to that post, I mentioned that we anticipated an X4 update with this compatibility later this year. The schedule has changed since then so I cannot provide a firm ETA, other than we're now targeting the first quarter of 2011. Mathilda, the EndNote team

First quarter 2011? That is shocking. Why so long? Our lab will be upgrading to Office 2011 ASAP, since Word 2008 crashes extremely often with complex manuscripts. Although we have been long-time EndNote users, our need for a stable version of Word is greater than our loyalty to EndNote. I, for one, will be looking for competing products that immediately support Office 2011...how disappointing.

As far as I know, Bookends is currently the only ref management that supports Word 2011.

It is really unfortunate the TR waits until Office 2011 releases to start developing the new version of CWYW because it means that the people who depend on it most must wait more than 3 months to actually update to the latest version of MS Word if they want to use EndNote. That is a shame especially considering there were 6 beta version of Office 2011 which were available to developers to ensure that their add-ons work right immediately after Office releases. I guess TR can do this because there are no real alternatives to using their program and we, the customers, suffer as a result.

Mathilda, the link in your post from 9/28 does not seem to work.

Please add my name to the beta test list. I hope to update to the new Office, but will not be able to do so until there is EndNote compatibility. Thank you.

This is so f...g frustrating! First you need to lay down 100 bucks for a version just to get Office 2011 support on Mac. Then, after Office 2011 release TODAY, nothing happens! What kind of software company is this anyway?????? Shame on YOU! Regards and sympathy for all the other Endnote users.

Hi, I would like to join in into a beta program to test a Office 11 compatible version of EndNote. And please, hurry up ;-) First quarter of 2011 sounds to far away for a release date... Thanks, Karsten />

The first quarter of 2011???? You are talking about 6 months from now! And by that time Thomson Reuters will release Endnote X5. What an embarrassment. Please do not release or sell software products to the public until you know that they are compatible with the software you intend to interface with! Everyone who has purchased X4 should, at a minimum, receive a free upgrade to X5 when it is released. I now regret acting on my purchase after receiving the Endnote mailing-pamphlet. "Thomson Reuters is the world's leading source of intelligent information for businesses and professionals. We combine industry expertise with innovative technology to deliver critical information to leading decision makers in the financial, legal, tax and accounting, healthcare and science and media markets, powered by the world's most trusted news organization" I was led to believe that this statement by T-R was true, but in reality, it simply is not.

Hello, could I be added to the beta testing? I need to use some functions in Word 2011 urgently, as I am working in a team that will switch to it pretty soon. Cannot work without Endnote, so that I found myself stuck. Can you please help and maybe give us a date for the beta testing/final release? Thank you Ben

Come on Thomson Reuters; the least you can do is give a date for intended release of Word 2011 compatible version. I for one, and my departent colleagues, are going to shift to Bookends. Already compatible with Word 2011 for Mac and a nice piece of software....oh, and a lot less expensive. Declan
