Hi there,   I have been using Endnote X2 with Word 2007 on my PC running Windows 7 (64bit) successfully for a number of months. I have also used Endnote Web to back up my library.   Now the summer holidays are here and I have a break from my University studies I thought I'd learn a few more things about Endnote. In investigating Endnote Web I noticed a download to use Cite While You Write with Word 2007 and Endnote Web. My mistake was not reading and thinking carefully enough - I downloaded the plug-in and found I could use Endnote Web with Word. But afterwards I realised Endnote X2 did not work with Word anymore.   I've trawled the internet for possible solutions and have so far not found anything that works. I've checked Word - word options - add-ins and seen that CWYW is there. Also in the Endnote Web tag in Word I can access preferences but the option to select Endnote X2 over Endnote web is greyed out. Also within Endnote I cannot find an option to make Endnote X2 the default program to use. I even tried uninstalling the Endnote Web plug-in but it still didn't do the trick. How can I get Endnote X2 to work with word again?   Any more information please ask. Also any help would be much appreciated. Many thanks, Mike

After pdf file attachment to any reference, if Find Full Text funtion is unfortunately applied to exactly the same reference, there would be two pdf file attached to the same reference. This sounds to be pretty cool up to now, however, if you try to open any of these file, the endnote X4 would be frozen and no pdf file would be able to be opened. And you have to delete both of these two files, and file need to be attached again. This seems to be caused mainly by Find Full Text funtion since i had two files attached to the same reference manually without any problem. Thanks.

I THINK I'm getting the hang of EN!    In this cite, for example   {Memering, 2006 #30}   What c an I do to 1) have the curly brackets around cites changed to regular parentheses?   and   Is the number that appears in the citation reference (#30) an EN marker that will go away in the "final draft"?   Regards, Chuck Billow

I am relative new to EndNote and have been reviewing all of the documentation and training videos that I can find.   However, there is one question (for now) that I cannot answer - If I cannot share references with other individuals using EndNote Web (and it appears that I cannot do so) why would I want to use EndNote Web instead of EndNote Desktop?   By the way - I do not mean this to be sarcastic in any way. I am responsible for training in EndNote within an organization and want to be sure that I have a valid answer for this question if it is posed.

I imported all my refs from Word 2010 via Word toolbar "Export to EndNote."   That seem to go fine.  Then I set them both to APA 5th Ed.   Then I selected the same reference from both places, inserting the cite into a Word document, and then ran bibliographies on both.  As the results below show, they are not at all the same.    Now, I'm no expert in APA, so I hope to rely on the citation software.  But how can I figure out which of these is right, and, if it's changes I need to make in EndNote, where / how do I find the what and where?   Examples (hanging indent excluded)::   Word 2010 (The History Place, n.d.) The History Place. (n.d.). John F. Kennedy "Ich bin ein Berliner.". Retrieved January 17, 2010, from The History Place: http://www.historyplace.com/speeches/berliner.htm   EndNote ("John F. Kennedy "Ich bin ein Berliner."," n.d.) John F. Kennedy "Ich bin ein Berliner.". (n.d.) The History Place. retrieved from http://www.historyplace.com/speeches/berliner.htm Hopefully, Chuck Billow

Hello everyone - I am also an Endnote newbie (having migrated from Reference Manager to try it out - I know Refman well, so I am not a novice to reference software) so apologize if this is a stupid question.   I am using Endnote Web, and when I try to create a bibliography, it only prints out first initials in the author lists (e.g., Lam R, Jones S, Smith L), even though I know the styles I am using specifies both initials (Lam RW, Jones SR, Smith LT). I have used several styles (Arch Gen Psychiatry, Amer J Psychiatry, Biological Psychiatry) and the same thing happens. I checked my citations and both initials are present in the reference. This happens whether I use CWYW in Word, or whether I try to generate a reference list from the web site.   I checked all the FAQs and tried to find the issue in the forums, but no luck, so I thought I would impose on the collective to get an answer to what I am doing wrong.   Thanks!   Ray.

Hi all,   I am able to insert references from EndNote Web into a Word 2007 document using CWYW plug-in. The bibliography generates itself just fine.   However, when I update the references on the EndNote Web site (for example, I fixed a problem with a title in a book that was cited), those updates don't appear when I use the Word 2007 CWYW EndNote Web plugin command "Update citations and bibliography".   It seems EndNote Web is different than EndNote. The latter always goes to the database for the source of the references (if I recall correctly).   With EndNote Web, it's like there's a copy of the inserted references in my Word document (maybe this is the so-called Traveling Library?). I must admit this is a bit frustrating and I hope someone can help.   How can my Word 2007 document get the changes I made in the original database?

Forgive me if this is posted somewhere but I have looked unsuccessfully for awhile to find similar links.   I am using a PC and EndNote X4. I am trying to put the transcript of a radio broadcast into APA 6th edition and insert it into a Word 2010 document. I can find no reference style in EndNote that even vaguely resembles the format for APA for a radio or television broadcast. I even tried using one of the user defined reference styles but cannot figure out how to modify it to look as APA would have it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I'm wondering if there's an easy or quick way to find out how many Endnote Web accounts have been created by my university's patrons. I was able to get some basic numbers over a year ago but it was a long, drawn-out and apparently difficult procedure. I've asked our regional representatives for more recent numbers and been advised that the request was forwarded to TR, but have heard nothing after a couple of months. Attempts to find out how well our soft launch is working are hampered by the fact that it seems impossible to get any useful numbers regarding uptake.   Melinda Goodin Swinburne University of Technology

I'm using EndNote X2.0.1 (Bld 3514) and Word 2007 SP2. When I insert a in-line citation using CWYW, it appears to enter correctly, but previous citations are randomly changed. If I insert a later citation, the one that originally appeared correct is also then randomly changed. These random changes do not happen to all citations. It appears that this problem does not occur at the beginning of the paper, but I do begin to see it by the 50th citation.   I have tried unstalling and then reinstalling EndNote and using it to rebuild my database, but this has not solved the problem. Needless to say, this is about the worst thing I can imagine this program doing. I very badly need help with this ASAP. Thanks.

I had ENW installed and running.  Then (so I'm stupid) tried the IE 9 beta).  I couldn't get ENW installed, and kept getting the error in the pic.  So I uninstalled IE9 and went back to IE8.  After uninstalling it when I went to re-install ENW, I still got -- and get -- the same error.   Is there a way to fix this?   Regards, Chuck Billow

Hi everyone I have been using Endnote x2 for a couple of years now and have found it to be a really valuable tool. Recently, without me making any changes to my style template, it has started to insert the heading "References" at the top of my reference list in Word. How can I get rid of this? I can't see anywhere in the edit output style function to edit the title, and I would much rather use the title options in Word as I can link them into my headings, indexes etc.   Any help would be very much appreciated! Thanks MJAM

I've seen everywhere that EndNote X4 is compatible with Word for Mac 2008; however, at UGA we've had at least two instances of Mac users who cannnot use EndNote X4 with their Word 2008. What appears to happen is that the EndNote toolbar in Word looks for EndNote X3. We get an error message that X3 cannot be found.   I'm going to have to advise Mac users to stay at X3 if we don't find a fix. Anyone else encounter this?

Thanks. Dawn

Why is Endnote X4 incompatible with Office 2011?  It seems that Endnote is always behind on schedule or keeping up with the latest versions of software, despite the numerous beta versions prior to official release (of operating systems or software, such as MS Office).   This problem needs to be corrected quickly.  Will probably have to return to Biblioscape or Bookends once again, or perhaps MS Office will come up with a comparable endnote program.  Thanks for dropping the ball once again, Thomson Reuters.
