EN7, Word XP 2002 SP3
I have a 200 page word document with a 50 page bibliography. It contains
several subdocuments, text boxes and graphics.
The citations have been mixed up, so that they are moved up one place. eg.
the 20th citation in the doc is where the 19th should be, etc etc to the
last citation. After about page 20 where I was editing, EVERY citation is in
the wrong place. If I knew how I or Endnote did it I could put them back!!!
Also some citations have had their author and year be associated with the
wrong record number, usually the next citation or one with the same year.
eg. {Bloggs, 1999 #58} should be {Smith, 1999 #58}, Bloggs, 1999 is
actually {Bloggs, 1999 #25)
This happened with CWYW active and may be associated with refs in the text
box, but I am not sure.
I would love a solution.
Thanks, Robert

This is a bug that has been described before (for the best discussion,
search the archives at http://lists.adeptscience.co.uk/endnote/form.html
for "citations move up" or "reshuffled". I recommend you ask tech
support if they can restore the document- they might have a trick? Also
if you read the archives, don't miss the point about how not to join
adjacent citations- never do this on a formatted reference. In my hands,
placing two references next to each other without spaces, endnote
manages to merge them just fine. And finally, if you are going to muck
around with the citations, do it with CWYW off and the references
unformatted.

This sounds like a familiar (and most annoying) problem.
It doesn't seem to happen in en.8, but I only tried it quickly on a short
document.
Anyway, the problem is described below; the solution is (if you notice
quickly) to use word's undo command (multiple times) or re-load from a
backup copy.

Robert,
Your sort of problem has cropped up before; you may want to check the
archives:

| Mixed up citations |

Hello All,
I just updated to EndNote version 8 from version 6, under Windows XP and
Word XP, and I had the same problem with reshuffling references. This
was most annoying, since I had to enter again all citations in their
proper places using an older printout of the paper. I was using the CWYW
features. Now, I just try to keep them unformatted, and never add or
delete a citation from the "Edit Citation" menu in the mouse toolbar. I
hope this will work.
It seems that this is a recurring problem experienced by several people.
Has anyone reported this to the company? Has the company offered a
solution or patch? If there is a company representative monitoring this
listserve (and I am sure there is ) could you please let us know why
this problem occurs an what you are doing to solve it?
I must confess that I am very dissapointed after the upgrade experience.
I assume that the upgrade would work more reliable than the previous
version, but I have my doubts.
Thanks

This problem came up with v.7 for one of the Admin. Assistants on
campus. We worked at the problem and finally fixed it. The only thing we
did was to uncheck the Word option, Smart tags. Everything went back in
the correct place.
