updating the bib while retaining customizations
Author: Barbara White    Posted: Tue, 20 Nov 2007 13:56:52 -0500
Sometimes, we need to change a citation to include additional
information (in some circumstances but not globally). I understand that
the best way to do this is in the Endnote database itself.
However, because it's not easy to share endnote libraries in a way that
multiple people have write access, we often make the changes locally in
the Word document. However, those changes then disappear when we update
the bibliography.

Is there a way to update the bib without losing those customizations?

Also, is there a way to update the bib without losing formatting? For
example, the endnote bibliography formats as Times New Roman 10.5.
However, parts of the bib (according to our templates) have to be
formatted as Arial bold. For example:

[Author Year] <---should be arial 10.5 bold Bib Entry. "Bib Entry Goes
Here," November 2007. <--should be times 10.5 regular

Everything comes in at Times 10.5 regular and then I have to change the
author instances to arial 10.5 bold. Then, when I update the bib, those
formatting customizations disappear. Is there a way around that?
