format problem from exporting

I was suggested by our library not to use filter to connect database for
downloading rather go to database to export to my Endnote, but have the
following problems:
1.Only ScienceDirect exporting reference close to endnote: they mentioned
RIS format (what that mean?), ie. Three author in three lines:
1. Bekaert, Geert
2. Harvey, Campbell R.
3. Lumsdaine, Robin L.
2. Econlit exported as Bekart, Geert Harvey, Campbell R. Lumsdaine Robin L.
on the same line
3. ABI Proqeust as in three lines but not in endnote format
Greert Bekart
Campbell R. Harvey
Robin L Lumdaine
Also have no year number.
Then once I format citation, only the source from ScienceDirect would give
me a correct one.
I need your advice regarding how to fix that if I do need to use econlit and
other database sources, thanks.
Regards,
Gary

Subject: RE: Publisher lost in Web of Science
What if you edit, preferences, reference types so that the field
"publisher" is used in Journal reference type. Has/will the information
in that tag been/be imported and show then?

To be fair, there doesn't seem to be an appropriate field for it in the
Journal Article form. Where would this information go? From memory,
ProCite does use a publisher field in either the Journal Article or the
Journal Long Form workform - another thing for ISI to bear in mind when
they release EndNote 7 with all the best features of ProCite and RefMan
(in my dreams!).

Did you misunderstand and they meant to use "Connect" rather than
downloading the searches and using "filters" to import the information
from your databases into Endnote (Two of the ways to go)? I am not
familiar with downloading from any of these databases, but the "connect"
route works best for me with the databases I use. I don't use Science
Direct either, preferring pubmed, but you might need to use the database
interface to download for that (since I don't see a connect file for
it). My playing with it though, usually yielded weird imported
references, with strange things in the year, for example. I think
"RIS" is the tagged format usually preferred by Reference Manager, but
interpretable by endnote as well.

As Leanne explained, RIS is a format for producing tagged bibliographic
records. It is widely used by databases that support direct export to
EndNote. It works well if the database vendor puts some effort into
producing their data in the correct format. Direct export from Science
Direct used to work quite well, but it is less satisfactory now. If you want
to know more about the RIS format, see:

You haven't told us which version of Econlit you are using. If it is from
Ebsco, see the information on our website at:
http://www.library.uq.edu.au/endnote/filters.html#E
We advise our users not to use the direct export function with Ebsco
databases, because the results are often poor. We advise them to download
the records and filter them into EndNote.

Direct export from Proquest is not entirely satisfactory. The authors are
not a problem: EndNote can interpret author names in direct or inverted
format. But the missing year is a nuisance. Again, we advise our users to
download the records and filter them. See the FAQ on our website at:
http://www.library.uq.edu.au/endnote/proquest.html

John and Leanne, Thanks for your very helpful solutions to my problems. It
does work well, thanking you again; it should save a lot of my time.
